The Studio

The studio opened in September 2013, we are very proud to have survived a few very difficult years and now watching as our business grows.

Ken

Ken has been in the music business for his living since 1967. As a pro musician playing Keys and trumpet he worked with many international artistes from the pop world and toured relentlessly until after 14 years his health made him rethink what he was doing. He joined a well known music agency in Bristol and was soon busy booking local rock club The Granary, all the local university gigs and folk and blues clubs. The promotion side of the agency also booked many top artistes into The Colston Hall (Bristol Beacon) The Studio (The O2) Bierkeller and venues around South Wales, the South West and The Midlands.

Ken then moved into artists management independently signing 3 bands and securing deals for them all, the best known was punk band The Vice Squad who were licenced to EMI.

After a problem with personnel with the Squad when they came back from the States and one of the other bands was also having a personnel problem Ken went his own way and found a job as a sales manager for Fender guitars.

He has a wealth of knowledge covering gigging, touring, PA sound systems, recording contracts, publishing contracts, insurance, musical instruments, management, concert promotions, publicity, accounting and anything you need to know on your quest for life in music.

If you are a client at 13 Sound Studios Ken will help all he can, he will also help with keys if you need any, backing vocals, working out harmonies and he makes a mean cup of tea.

Charlie

Although very much Kens junior Charlie has acquired the skill in today’s technology to be an absolute wizard with a mouse and a keyboard, he is also a very likeable guy working equally as well with children brought to the studio for a ‘Singstar Experience’ or a group of young adults with learning difficulties that want to make their own music.

With abundant patience he helps bring out the best in all of the clients and he treats everyone the same, beginners, world beaters, no hopers and seasoned pros, they all get the same encouragement and attention to detail.

He went to the local college doing music production and was told that there was no point in him doing a degree because he knew everything and in 2 years he would rack up a portfolio of work at the studio that would outweigh any piece of paper saying he had a qualification.

Charlie is also a multi-instrumentalist who can assist when tracking and has an amazing vocal talent.
